Hacked Skill Items for The Sims 1

A bookcase that skills 2x faster.  For those who only want to cheat a moderate amount. :-)

Chess Tables that provide more Fun, fill up your Fun bar all the way, and skill 2x faster:

  Regular chess table: CoryleaFunChess.zip

A piano whose bench provides a little comfort (Maxis provides ZERO, which makes no sense) and skills 2x faster:

A weight bench that skills 2x faster.  I also recolored it to blue.
As of April 7, 2024, I also hacked this to drain Comfort instead of Energy.  Because when people work out, they get TIRED, but they don't get SLEEPY.  You don't have to go to bed three hours earlier when you've been working out, but you do need to sit down for awhile.

A guitar that provides more Fun and also skills 2x faster:

Silent Mirror -- When your sims practice their speeches in this mirror, you won't have to hear them blathering away.  You'll still get the "success" sound when they gain a skill point, though.
There are two versions:

Version 1 skills at the same rate as the regular Maxis mirror:  SilentMirrorRegular.zip
Version 2 skills twice as fast as the Maxis mirror:  SilentMirrorFaster.zip

A (white) mirror that skills 3x faster. (This one isn't silent; it's just faster.)  I hate building Charisma, so I cheat it even more than usual. :-)

Skill Picture One
-- A hacked painting that gives what I call "Starter Points."  This painting, of Maxfield Parrish's "Ecstasy," has been hacked to provide 4 Cooking points, 2 Mechanical points, and 1 point in each of the other skills.  Because no one comes out of childhood entirely skill-less. :-)  (Two Cooking points is usually enough to avoid burning down the kitchen, but four points is when they say, "Yum," so I gave them four.)

The Supersculpture at SomeSimThings will maximize any skill you want, if you're looking for that.  THIS object is for when you DO want to play the game and skill your sim up normally, but you're tired of teaching every sim to cook from the ground up, when no one should have gotten to adulthood without being able to scramble an egg or plunger a toilet.

I find this object especially useful when marrying a skill-less sim.  It gives them enough skill points to make dinner or plunger a toilet, but they'll still need to study plenty if they want to advance in any career.

Skill Picture Two
-- This painting, of Maxfield Parrish's "Morning," has been hacked to add one skill point at a time, in whatever skills you wish.  You can add as many points as you want in any skill, up to a maximum of ten, though if you want to MAXIMIZE a skill, the Supersculpture at SomeSimThings would do that much more quickly.

THIS object is for when you DO want to play the game and skill your sim up normally, but you want to add one or two skill points quickly for some reason.

I find this object especially useful when marrying a skill-less sim.  Depending on what backstory you've made up for your new spouse, you can give them the skill points to match it.

Installation:
All of these items are installed in the usual way; unzip the folder to your Program Files (x86)\Maxis\Downloads folder.

I made these mods for my own use, but I went to the trouble of uploading them in an attempt to make my fellow simmers happy.  So if you enjoy any of these mods, I'd love to hear about it!  I don't get mail at corylea.com, but you can leave a comment in the thread announcing these mods at ModTheSims or Reddit or send me a PM at either of those places; I'm Corylea at both.

Have fun!
