Because this fix only works if your saved game has been hacked to alter the quest file, this fix is only for one particular person, the one who gave me his saved game.  This isn't a general-purpose mod or even a general-purpose bugfix.

You need two things to make the quest work:  

1.  A hacked save game file
2.  A set of files that make the altered quest work


If you fail to talk to Vaska about Berengar in Chapter 2, you CAN'T talk to her about Berengar in Chapter 3; the necessary lines don't exist in the Chapter 3 conversational file.

This file is a modified version of Vaska's Chapter 3 conversation, one that gives her the necessary lines for talking about Berengar.  It also gives you an extra journal entry about Vaska and makes Vaska give you the split Salamander brooch that you'd normally find on a mutilated body in the clay pits.  That body isn't there in Chapter 3, though, so I have Vaska give you the quest item.  Once you've talked to her about Berengar, the "Berengar's Secret" quest should update to the next phase, allowing you to continue with it.

These files only update the quest if the quest file inside your saved game file has been hacked to go with them, so you need BOTH the altered saved game file (put where your saved games normally go) AND this set of Override files in order for the fix to work.

INSTALLATION: Download the folder, unzip it, and put all of the files it contains into your Override folder. If you don't have an Override folder, then you'll need to make one. The Override folder does NOT go into the Witcher folder where your saved games are; it goes in the Witcher folder where the game data is. This is The Witcher Enhanced Edition\Data.

Note:  Like everything I make, this is for The Witcher; it's not for The Witcher 2.
