Camera
Shots in Witcher Conversations
Modders
can
choose a camera position for each line of a conversation in The Witcher.
Even though I
thought I knew what things like "WS" or "XCU" meant, I wasn't sure
exactly how those things were defined in The Witcher.
Would an extreme
close-up show just Geralt's eyes? His whole face?
Face and
neck? When we're
dealing with wide screen, just how wide IS wide?
My adventures tend to be story-driven and dialogue-heavy, so the camera
position during important conversations can be influential in conveying
maximum emotional impact. Finally I broke down and created a
mini-module that went through each possible camera position and took
screenshots. And as long as I was going to all this work, I
figured that I might as well go to a little extra work and share them
with other Witcher modders (all one of you :-) ).
You can just look at the pictures below, or you can download a folder
with all of them: Folder
with Pictures Heck,
you can have the whole little module, if
you want it, though I'm not sure why you would: Dialogue Camera
Demonstrator Mini-Module
The screenshots below are with Geralt as the person speaking.
So
if you see both Geralt and Shani, that "left" or "right" is with Geralt
as the speaker. I saved the pictures as medium-quality jpgs,
since I figured we didn't need excellent textures if we were just
checking camera angles, so the file sizes aren't huge.

No, there's no LEFT_Xxcu. But that's okay, because it looks
pretty much identical to plain ole XCU, anyway.
I don't know anything about wikis, but if anyone wants to put this
information in the D'jinni
Wiki, you have my permission to
do so.
